How a High School Job Became a Family Mortgage Business
Chris Luis didn’t set out to become a mortgage broker — he grew up around one. His father, Ralph Luis, spent years working in the mortgage business, and Chris began learning the trade firsthand back in 2002. What started as hands-on experience working alongside his father grew into a career that’s now spanned more than two decades.
In February 2017, Chris took that experience and launched Mortgage-World.com, LLC — a full-service independent mortgage broker now licensed in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Florida. The difference between a bank loan officer and an independent mortgage broker is simple but important: a bank can only offer that bank’s own loan products, while a broker like Mortgage-World.com shops your file across a network of wholesale lenders to find the program — and the underwriter — most likely to approve it. That distinction is the entire reason this company exists. Too many qualified borrowers were getting rejected by banks that simply didn’t have the right loan box to put them in, and Chris built Mortgage-World.com to be the place those borrowers could finally get a yes.
In recent years, Chris’s younger sister, Julia Luis, joined Mortgage-World.com as a Loan Officer. A University of Miami graduate, Julia grew up watching her father and older brother build the family business, and she now works directly with borrowers from application through closing, bringing the same hands-on, answer-the-phone approach the company has always run on. Mortgage-World.com remains a small, two-generation operation by design — big enough to access dozens of wholesale lenders, small enough that you’ll always speak to someone who actually knows your file.
